Abstract

The purpose of researchers conducting this research is to criticize the use of
Instagram social media in the 2024 elections. Digital technology continues to
develop so that it has a positive or negative impact on all lines of life, especially in
the 2024 elections. The use of Instagram social media as a political forum makes a
means for election participants and the public to communicate online, so that one's
self-branding is formed positively or negatively. The purpose of this study is to
determine whether there is an influence obtained from the use of Instagram as a
campaign tool on the level of student political participation in the 2024 elections.
This research is quantitative research, using descriptive methods. With a
quantitative approach, using data collection methods in the form of questionnaires
distributed online (in the network) using google form and distributed via Broadcast
message to PAI students. In this study, researchers used social media theory and
political participation theory. The results obtained showed that Instagram social
media had a very low effect on political participation of 10.6%, while the remaining
89.4% were other variables not included in the study such as candidate
characterization, candidate track record, current issues in the 2024 elections and so
on. Testing the research hypothesis shows that Instagram social media has a
significant but small effect on the political participation of PAI students of STAI
Ma'arif Magetan in the 2023/2024 academic year.
