COMMUNITY SERVICE THROUGH TUTORING FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN IN GIRIMULYO VILLAGE
Abstract
The five-day school program launched by the government reaps pros and cons in the community. Students who are exhausted while at school are the main background that becomes the triggering factor. Another factor is the swelling of funds that must be spent by parents in increasing pocket money and also in providing provisions for their children at school. This has an impact on parents' reluctance to include their children in paid tutoring programs. Even though for most school-age students, participating in the tutoring program is one of the advantages in itself. They can explore the lessons learned in school. The formulation of the problem presented in this study is "How is Tutoring for elementary school-age children in Girimulyo village? Tutoring is focused on English subjects assuming English is the most widely used international language. This activity will be held in January-February 2023. The methods used in this service are lectures, questions and answers observation methods, socialization, training, and guidance. The tutoring program has been successful. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of elementary school students to join this tutoring program. Their presence reaches 100%. And from the results of the learning evaluation, it appears that they have shown an improvement in their English skills in the four skills, namely listening, reading, speaking and writing, as well as two components of English, namely grammar and vocabulary.
