RITUAL YOGA: DARI SAKRAL KE PROFAN AKIBAT DAMPAK KOMODIFIKASI AGAMA
Abstract
Modernization in society will lead to a decrease in the level of religiosity. This has an impact on a shift in meaning that was originally considered sacred to become something more secular, including yoga rituals. More specifically, this study was conducted to find out in depth about the form of change in yoga culture from spirituality to the commercial area and about the adaptation of yoga in the modern era so that it continues to exist and is in demand by the public. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive qualitative interpretive analysis. Based on the results of the research, it shows that in this modern era, the practice of yoga as a religious ritual has begun to shift to yoga as a health exercise, even in some places yoga has shifted far into yoga tourism whose practice has strayed far from yoga as a religious ritual basically. This makes Yoga, which was originally a spiritual process, into something more secular. Yoga, which was originally a series of sacred religious ceremonies, was then packaged as a tourist attraction. Yoga is then modified to suit tourism needs so that it can be sold to tourists.
